Hi ,

When Work Feels Wrong

One of my biggest challenges has been finding work with purpose and meaning that is ethically and morally good and right AND that pays the bills.
We live within a human-made system that is totally misaligned with nature and who humans intrinsically are at the core. Your value is often determined by how you add to and support that system. When you start to awaken to the world's truth, finding work or a job that does not somehow feed into that system becomes difficult.

Let me explain.

For example, for me, as an architect, a lot of available work is to create buildings like schools, hospitals, offices, shopping centres, prisons or high-rise apartments. All of these facilities are contributing to the systems of human control and authoritarianism. Schools control the mind, hospitals support medical practices based on pharmaceuticals and treating symptoms rather than causes, shopping centres support consumerism, prisons support inhumane systems and high-rise apartments support a disconnection from nature and unwellness.
At some point, I worked on all of these types of projects. And, while I was not the person directly from the work that maintains the system, I contributed to providing facilities that allow it.
Over time, this work felt more and more wrong, and I struggled to justify my participation.
Ever experienced this?

Natural Law Theory Explained

In my quest to understand my place in the world, I came across Natural Law. While it is rarely spoken of in society and something I probably did not even know about ten years ago, it’s such an important piece of the puzzle.

Natural law determines the way humans naturally act and behave. Natural law is why some things feel good and right and others feel bad and wrong.

It affects every aspect of your life, whether you know about it, or understand it or not. And recently, I’ve been reminded multiple times in conversation to revisit and remember.
This week's video explores and explains Natural Law Theory and answers the questions:
  • What is natural law and natural law theory?
  • The aspects of natural law including seven human needs?
  • How does natural law work?
  • Morals and ethics in natural law.
  • Why does natural law matter and we need to reconnect to it today?

Meaning, Purpose, Right And Wrong

Over the years, I’ve jumped ship from the corporate world multiple times to “build a business” without knowing what it was. Every time, I grapple with the issue of paying the bills while trying to figure out business. It creates a lot of stress.
Because building a business is hard work. The learning curve is huge. It’s like learning a whole new career - you don’t just go to school or university for a few months or a year, and then you’re an expert in your profession. It takes time to learn, experience and understand anything at a deep level.

The big questions that I currently seek to answer in my own journey are:
  • How do you do work that is meaningful, purposeful, ethical and moral? And get paid?
  • How do you pay the bills without selling your soul?

At the moment, I’m taking the pressure off this work, and I’m diversifying. I’m permitting myself to do some work that pays the bills as ethically as possible while I finish my new program “Essence” (it’s so close to nearly done!!) and build this work in it’s own time. The pressure is off – from both sides.

There’s nothing wrong with working in a low stress (as meaningful and ethical as possible) job to pay the bills, while you figure out yourself, your business and your life!!!

Hit reply and let me know where you are in your quest to find purpose and meaning and the work you love?
